About the Artwork: Elyn had been living in Provence for five years when she painted this picture. The lights in her work are not always those of Provence. Remembrance: artificial lights are everywhere in Shanghai, like fireflies reaching the firmament to glow more and more and then fade away. The whole city is draped in dreams of unexpected colors. Those artificial lights, those of a tormented social life have condemned Elyn to wander in search of a peaceful life. However, inevitably, nostalgia for her hometown arose, unconsciously, nourished by Chinese culture and history for more than 20 years. Some memories can never be erased. Childhood is a lingering sun, a memory that cannot be left behind, a soft feeling that can never be found again. Elyn would like to see only the light of the sun while remembering a city past, where the mist and then the rain came slowly but fell precipitously, like the joy and sorrow of life, nurturing the hope that happiness may last for a long time. That hope does illuminate her painting with the bravery to think that it will one day be embodied in this earthly world.
